Wet plate collodion · The signature offering

Portraits made of pure silver.

Using the same 19th-century process that captured Lincoln and Walt Whitman, Matt creates one-of-a-kind alumitype and ambrotype portraits. Each plate is hand-poured, hand-developed, and yours to keep — the only one that will ever exist exactly as it is. The image is made of pure silver. It will never fade, never corrupt, and never become obsolete.

About Matt

Photography since age ten.

Matt picked up a camera at ten years old and never put it down. High school in Philadelphia meant hours in the darkroom. A move to Vail, Colorado in 2000 introduced him to wedding photography — and a chance encounter with wet plate collodion chemistry opened a door to a 19th-century process his fourth-great-grandfather, Lowell Gilmore, had practiced in the 1840s.

Today Matt works across digital, film, and wet plate — adapting the format to the moment. Based in Denver, wintering in Tucson and California, and available to travel worldwide for the right project.

I have a deep appreciation for exploration and adventure. I love to travel and immerse myself in diverse settings. So, if you have a special event in a unique location, feel free to reach out. I'm always excited about the prospect of blending my passion for photography with the opportunity to travel and capture the essence of different places and people. Let's collaborate to make your moments memorable, wherever they may unfold!
