Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. For me that ment taking it back to the 1800’s when photography was much simpler. Winding down from a summer of weddings where I was shooting 5,000 – 6,000 photos a day there was something magical and euphoric about spending a full 8 hours to make just 2 prints.

Day one of Quinn’s workshop was spent getting to know the studio and watching a demonstration of how Quinn makes his Mammoth Wet Plates, and learning so key tips and tricks to help save your sanity.

Day two began with a brief recap of the process, then we we all helped each other make our first plate. After lunch we were cut free to make plates on our own.Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (19)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (6)My first plate was a portrait of my dog Howard. It was quite the task to get him to sit still for the 4 second exposure.Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (18)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (17)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (16)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (15)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (14)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (13)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (12)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (11)Mammoth Wet Plate, Collodion workshop (10)

By the end of the day we had all made 2 plates and stretched the silver bath to its limits for the day. 2 plates was enough for me to get hooked, I can’t wait to make my next pour! Thanks to Quinn and everyone involved for such an amazing experience!
